The Gay Community Center of Richmond (GCCR) and the Virginia Anti –Violence Project present a screening of the movie Amancio: Two Faces on a Tombstone, followed by a discussion led by the AVP and reception. This movie and discussion will be in the GCCR Event Hall from 4 pm - 6:30 pm on Saturday, March 13, 2010. Donations will be accepted to support the work of the Virginia Anti-Violence Project and programs at GCCR; the suggested donation is $5. As a young boy, Amancio Corrales immigrated from Mexico to Yuma Arizona with his parents in search of a better life. Gay and Hispanic, Amancio dreamed of one day being a performer in Las Vegas, but his dream was cut short on May 6, 2005 when Amancio’s body was found floating in the Colorado River near Yuma. He had been brutally beaten and stabbed. He was just 23 years old. For the first time, the story of one man’s journey to seek justice for the murder on behalf of Amancio’s family and friends is revealed in this intriguing documentary AMANCIO...Two Faces on a Tombstone created by award winning documentary filmmaker Tom Murray. To see the trailer: http://www.amancio-themovie.com/video.htm. At its initial screening, producer Bruce Presley's debut documentary, Amancio... Two Faces on a Tombstone, walked away with the Miami and Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival's (MGLFF) Audience Favorite Award for a Documentary Feature. The Virginia Anti-Violence Project works to address and end violence within and against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities across Virginia. They work to end hate violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, state-sanctioned violence, stalking and bullying and harassment. They work to promote respectful and equitable relationships, community accountability, LGBTQ visibility, access to survivor support, and affirming collaborations. If you can’t make it on Saturday, March 13, there will be a second presentation/discussion of the movie on Sunday afternoon, March 21, from 4 pm – 6pm in the GCCR classroom. |
